Very young children need to be introduced to the concept of wooden puzzles. They may not realize the pile of wooden pieces on the floor in front of them should be assembled to form something.
For a child's first wooden puzzle experience, do the puzzle with him and show him what happens, what it is for. The next step is to let him manipulate the puzzle himself, but stay close in case he needs help. After that let him do it on his own. This way, he develops the confidence in his puzzle
